That comes by looking over the shoulder, keeping our senses alert to any untoward input! I believe that these accidents cannot be completely eliminated, but dramatically reduced if we get more and more aware of our environment!
Services roads, internal roads, potholes, markers, dividers, flyovers, fast cars, motorcycles, buffaloes, stray dogs, etc. all are an integral part of the cyclists environment...!
Thanks for your valuable comments and inputs too.Odati Adventureshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14318127785880010416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5280266518492472074.post-92193137171515747322012-10-05T07:57:30.521-07:002012-10-05T07:57:30.521-07:00Thanks for the article Jayesh... There are very few thorough enthusiasts rest are just "herd mentality", to look cool and to post on FB... Crazy but hope the least they do is read this and like wise articles before taking it up... Am sure Rajendra's episode must have sent chill down their (media industry cyclists) spines but I pray they all ride safe and follow all the safety measures...NitAchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14889188787062265414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5280266518492472074.post-73477963955026425932012-10-04T23:10:56.749-07:002012-10-04T23:10:56.749-07:00My appreciations Jayesh...its not an article but a...My appreciations Jayesh...its not an article but a noble initiative to entilighten the wise souls...I wish to suggest one more area which one needs to think about when we are talking about the precautions that one needs to take while cycling on the city roads...i was witness to an accident from just 10 mts distance (from behind) when one of my fellow companion from chembur was knocked down on eastern express highway a couple of months back while we were on ride from chembur to thane and back on a quite sunday morning. It was at around 8 am. The reason for the accident was he tried to cross over from the extreme left side of the road to ascend on the flyover (airoli junction). In the process of crossing over one motor cycle knocked him from behind and i saw his fall after a short lift in the air and then bang...luckily he survived with minor bruises...rear wheel was out, from middle onwards to the back of the cycle was almost bent at 60 degrees...
Last sunday while i was riding with around a dozen companions on 130 km ride via western express highway to varjeshwari i observed the same thing with several guys from Mumbai Cycling Enthusiast Group and my friends from chembur...thank god nothing happened...lakin hota to...
Every time a cyclist crosses over from sercie road side extreme left to the middle of the road to ascend on the flyover and while he descends and in the process of realigning on the extreme left side the probabilities of getting knocked from behind is most....
One needs to think about this....
Suresh Gohilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04793030064210702859noreply@blogger.com
